Laurelwood Small Poutine

When Heather lived in NW Portland, the Laurelwood NW Public House was one of our favorite weekend brunch spots. But since we moved to North Portland, we seldom have reason to visit the neighborhood. Recently, however, we learned that the menu had been revamped, and that one new menu (pdf) item in particular would provide the impetus to revisit Heather’s old stomping grounds:

Poutine $5/$8
House Cut Fries, Cheese Curds,
Mother Lode Golden Ale Gravy

Before the Timbers match Saturday, we visited Laurelwood for beers and snacks. And of course, we ordered the poutine.

The small was plenty. And wow, this is good poutine. The french fries are a mix of sizes and crispinesses, the cheese curds are plentiful and cheddary, and the Mother Lode Golden Ale Gravy is delicious. This is one of the better poutines in town.

I believe we’ll be making trips back to the old neighborhood more often.

Wow wow wow! I just moved into an office at 17th & Lovejoy, great to know that LWNW has poutine! It looks great.

Bill Night – And a poutine option even a bit closer to your office is Melt (716 NW 21st Ave). Though Laurelwood’s is better, in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll start with Laurelwood, then give Melt a try. Life is good.

sadly, the Laurelwood NW closed in December. i was seriosuly jonesin’ for some poutine yesterday, and was devastated when i saw that the building was pitch black. i guess i need to get my fix elsewhere now.

    Hey Dave,
While the Laurelwood NW closed, it reopened as the Northwest Public House. One of the owners has celiac disease so a lot of gluten-free offernings are available. They do not have poutine anymore (Waah!, but thanks for the tip on Foster Burger!!!), but they do have something that fits in your “poutinesque PDX” category I’d love to try.

They have: pub frites, smothered in “mile high pork green chile and cheddar.” Sounds tasty. I hope they know green chile – my friend from NM would be thrilled to know another place to eat.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to stop by and try those pub frites!
